In chapter 4, Filak speaks on how stories in journalism can gain attention. Journalist always find themselves rushing to get a story done. Filak has a writing pyramid in the chapter to explain journalist should write. The pyramid helps writer to be fast while also helping to engage a reader.
Knight speaks out about different styles of writing in chapter 8. In particular, the use of cliches. He says their use in not needed in journalism. In my opinion, it should not matter what a writer uses in a story. No matter how you engage a reader, the story should be what’s important.
In chapter 9, Knight spoke on the use of “red flags” in writing. Specifically the use of casual conversation words like “feel” and “like”. Knight feels that these words should not be used because they do not correspond with a reader.
